Frequently in our busy lives we forget that simplicity is often best and when things get hard, it is simplicity we always crave. Art can be much the same. While art with vibrant colours wildly splashed across a canvas Jackson Pollock style catches the eye, a simple paired back piece can be equally effective.

During a visit to my local art gallery I was struck by the strength of simplicity of a piece of art that used only three colours: black, white and a dash of green. After this visit I went home and paired this colour scheme with an an intricate pattern to create this drawing of a Birdwing Butterfly. I contemplated leaving it black and white but felt it needed just something more so I added a dash of red.
