Meet George. He is the neighbourhood magpie. He visits several houses in our very long street and we all have our own name for him. We call him George as a nod to the famous quote from George Orwell’s novel ‘1984’…big brother is watching you. In our neighbourhood, George is ‘big brother’. When I pull back our curtains in the morning he is there, sitting on the window ledge, watching us. He sings his beautiful song to get our attention. We know it’s George because he has a dodgy wing. He is very cheeky and he brings us all much joy. Long may his song ring out.
