The bottlebrush is one of my favourite natives. I plucked this one from our garden. It’s brushy flowers come in a range of colours. My favourite varieties are those with red spikes. The plant which kindly gave up this spike for me is ‘Calistemon Viminalis’. It is also called ‘Weeping Bottlebrush’ thanks to it’s pendulous structure. It not only looks good but it’s large, matted root system holds soil in place and it’s lava red flowers are a favoured food source for birds and insects which feed on it’s sweet nectar.
